The Advantages of Large CNC

1. Structural Integrity & BOM Consolidation

Instead of welding multiple small components together, large-format CNC machining allows us to carve massive parts out of a single piece of billet. This achieves BOM (Bill of Materials) consolidation, reducing assembly labor, eliminating weak welded joints, and drastically increasing structural strength.

2. Advanced Thermal Stability & Rigidity

Oversized workpieces are highly susceptible to thermal expansion and deflection during long machining cycles. Our heavy-duty gantry mills and boring mills are engineered with high structural rigidity and liquid-cooled spindles to dissipate heat, preventing any micro-level distortion.

3. Gantry-Scale Metrology & Verification

A large part is only as good as its verification. We support our manufacturing with large gantry-style Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), 3D laser scanning, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to guarantee that critical dimensions, parallelism, and flatness are verified on every oversized component.

DFM Guidelines for Large-Format CNC Machining

Optimize your oversized component designs to maximize structural integrity, improve material removal rates, and minimize production costs.

🏗️

Optimize Wall Thickness

Ensure thick, robust walls on large components to withstand the intense clamping forces of heavy-duty fixtures. Thin walls on large parts are highly prone to vibration and tool chatter, compromising surface finish.

📐

Standardize Fillets

Use larger internal corner radii that allow the utilization of larger, stiffer cutting tools. This significantly increases material removal rates (MRR) and shortens the long machining cycles typical of oversized components.

📦

Spliced Designs

If a component exceeds standard freight dimensions, design high-strength mechanical joints like tongue-and-groove with dowel pins. Splicing allows parts to be shipped easily and assembled precisely on-site.

Large-Format FAQ

Our facilities are equipped with overhead gantry cranes with up to 50-ton lifting capacities. This allows us to safely load, reposition, and inspect massive, heavy-duty raw castings and forged blocks without any risk of dropping or damage.

Every shipped part comes with a comprehensive quality dossier. This typically includes Gantry CMM reports, 3D laser scan color deviation maps, material certificates (MTR), heat treatment logs, and non-destructive testing (NDT) certification if requested.

Yes. We regularly machine large steel weldments and structural castings. Our service covers stress-relief annealing (heat treatment) prior to final machining, ensuring the part does not warp after key structural features are milled.

We apply professional anti-rust oils and protective coatings to all machined surfaces. For overseas transport, parts are vacuum-packed in heavy-duty moisture-barrier vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI) bags and securely bolted into custom heavy timber crates.
